General Network Error / SQL Server does not exist
I get the General Network Error (and sometimes the SqlServer does not
exist).
I used to get this issue for the past few months. What I used to do is
restart SQL Server (from the system tray) one or two times and it used
to continue working. I never cared.
Now one of our customers is complaining the same issue! :-)
Googling about i heard people offering "setting named pipes as the
default". I went to the Sql Server Client Network Utility program and
couldn't find any such option in the "DB-Library Options" tab to change
this default setting.
Or is the above solution for some other problem.
Thanks a lot..

OS : Windows XP
Application: On ASP.NET
Sql Server: Developer Edition (also tried with MSDE)
The application always looks at "localhost"
I have "NAMED PIPES" and "TCPIP" in the GENERAL tab selected in the
network client utility. Clicking Properties on NAMED PIPES gives
"Network Protocal Default Value Setup = sql\query". Clicking properties
on TCPIP gives "1433".
I have two aliases defined to two OTHER servers on the internet. I am
just mentioning that for completeness, as those two servers have got
nothing to do with the one having the problem.
DB Library Options File Name = "c:\windows\system32\ntwdlib.dll"
Hope this is enough information for someone to help me out.
Thanks and regards

Here's an example:
ltrim(rtrim(@.MESACT))
Regards,
Enrique Martinez
Sr. SQL Server Developer|||SQL server doens't have TRIM, but RS has "TRIM" function, which can be used
in layout and not on Data tab. Just for your info.

function does not exist for decision tree when running tutorial
I get a similar error for clustering in the same tutorial.
However, The Naive Bayes demo seems fine.
The messages said the project was built and deployed without errors.
Does anyone know how to fix the error:

The tree graph cannot be created because of the following error:

Please follow my answer in a previous thread to fix this problem:

Please let me know whether this works.
Good luck,
|||Thank-you that did work - however, it did not seem to work the first time I tried it. I rebooted the server and then it worked - though I don't know if that is related.I have an OLAP directory in two places MSSQL.2 and MSSQL.5.
The programs mentioned were in mssql.5 but the system entry was pointing to mssql.2
I wondering if I should also copy the subdirectories that are under olap/bin to mssql.2
I'm also wondering how this happened in the first place.
I am fairly certain the files were not deleted from mssql.2 by accident.
Could this be an installation issue?
I started out with the trial version and 'upgraded' to a fully licensed version.
Thanks again.|||
I think it is an installation issue.
I had the same problem when upgrading from "Standard Edition" to "Enterprise Edition".
Couldn't change the setting to MSSQL.5 in the path string. Needed to copy all the files into MSSQL.2. Now I've got them in both places, which seems a little redundant and weird.

Try this
1. Open the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet
\Services\msftesql
2. Rename the value DependOnService to anything
3. Restart the server
This have helped me.

Fulltext query fails with "The content index is corrupt." on sql server 2005
I am afraid you will need to rebuild your entire index. There is no such option as 'repair'.
Please, feel free to contact me letting me know which operations toke place in order to have this corrupted status, as it is not common indeed.
Thanks.
