General network error - SqlInternalConnection.OpenAndLogin
that we believe may be linked to network issues or possibly a bad NIC. So
we wrote a small app to continuously "ping" - really it issues a small
select against a table - the DB every 2 seconds. We had lots of errors
crop up doing this. In doing so seemed to narrow some issues down to
ADO.NET's pooling along with problems in teh network. Apparently if there
were network issues and the pooled connection got "hosed", the whole
connection was doomed and we'd receive errors "General network errors" on
the next attempt to use the hosed connection.
Now, we have disabled pooling and getting the below exception. Does anyone
know what normally causes this exception to occur out of the "OpenAndLogin"
method?

General Access Project info
Performance wise I don't think this is great.
Anyone have any general information about doing an upgrade to a micrsoft project database, and what are the pros and cons of access projects compared to Access databases with linked tables.
About 30 -40 users currently hammer the access front end during the day.Access Data Projects are MUCH better than Access MDB databases with linked tables. Off the top of my head I can't think of any advantage to using an MDB with linked tables instead of going with an ADP file.|||OK, one disadvantage: You cannot store ANY tables locally in an Access ADP file, so any setup or configuration data cannot be stored on the user's machine (at least in the database file).

future enhancement
I would also like to see a "My Reports" feature that would allow a user to create a list of reports they most frequently access. I have created a custom solution to do this and only told a few users about it; now there are 276 entries in it. We have about 80 users total. I looked at the subscription option but it requires to many settings. Most of our reports have parameters, a date range being the most common, that are not static and therefore subscriptions would be a little tedious to use.
By the way, I am not sure if there is a better forum for this.

select * from index_gold_iif('20040121')
When I try do it from linked serwer:

I have massage:
Server: Msg 170, Level 15, State 31, Line 2

As I understand server can't see function from linked server. Is it true or
I have done some error (what)?

OPENQUERY - I don't know this function up today. What about optimalization
with this function - isn't it so slow as exec('query string")?
Can I use this function to make query like:
select * from va_name_table
for example:
select * from openquery(localhost, 'select * from '+@.table_name)?
Marek|||> No, server can see functions

there something wrongs with openquery - it didn't recognize query string
bild on the fly. So what for call openquery with string to connect to
function, which I need to write parametr of this funcion once forewer?
Marek
PS. example with error:
declare @.dt as datetime
declare @.s as varchar(520)
select @.dt='20040121 12:22:33'
select @.s='select * from e_.dbo.index_gold_iif('+convert(varchar(22), @.dt,
112)+' '+convert(varchar(22), @.dt, 108)+')'
print @.s -- up to this place workong OK
select * from OPENQUERY(lewiatan , @.s) -- this is not working

Function call to Progress linked server
I have a Progress DB set up as a linked server.
To get the data through to SQL Server 2005 in a useable format i need to use the progress PRO_ELEMENT function call. How do I delimit this so it gets passed to the progress DB.
I've tried
SELECT
{fn PRO_ELEMENT(fldarr1,1,1)} as fld1
from ls1..pub.tab
This just returns an unknown function message which I believe is on the SQL Server end of the call.
This statement works fine through Business Objects.
Any help greatfully received.
try using OPENQUERY function.
select * from openquery (lnkd_server, 'SELECT {fn PRO_ELEMENT(fldarr1,1,1)} as fld1 from ls1..pub.tab')
function and linked server
declare @.dt as datetime
select @.dt='20040121 12:22:33'
select * from index_gold_iif(@.dt)
When I try do it from linked serwer:
declare @.dt as datetime
select @.dt='20040121 12:22:33'select * from
lewiatan.e_.dbo.index_gold_iif(@.dt)
I have massage:
Server: Msg 170, Level 15, State 31, Line 2
Line 4: Incorrect syntax near '('.
Did server can't see function from linked server? Is it true or I have done

UDFs aren't supported directly on linked servers, but you can use
OPENQUERY() as a workaround:

both of them isn't good, beacouse my function return table (there is "view
with parametr")

OK works for function returned table
