General Network Error

Hi Guys,

I'm using Native OLE DB\SQL Native Client provider to get data from SQL Server 2000 database into SQL Server 2005 database using SSIS.

The problem is I get this error:

An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005.
An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "[DBNETLIB][ConnectionRead (recv()).]General network error. Check your network documentation.".

The component returned a failure code when the pipeline engine called PrimeOutput(). The meaning of the failure code is defined by the
component, but the error is fatal and the pipeline stopped executing.

It may have to do with connection pooling, evidently they will not work well in OLE DB

GAC issue

I have .NET 1.1/Visual Studio 2003 and am trying to make the .NET C# code visible in SSIS -- I am a newcomer to GAC and did the following:

Set up a strong-name key pair

Put in the reference to it inside assemblyinfo

Put in PreBuild event to uninstall in GAC and PostBuild to install in GAC

All appeared fine

Set up project in SSIS

Put up Add Reference dialog and looked for project dll -- not there

I see from above something about putting the assembly into c:\windows\framework\... I do not have

a directory "framework" under "windows"

Is there another place I should put the assembly>

It references when I put the assembly in the V 2.0 dir, that is,

C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727

Note: this is a version 1.1 assembly. Would there be any

problems with just going ahead and doing this?

|||GAC is a runtime thing. Putting the assembly in the appropriate .NET folder allows you to reference it for debugging and intellisense.sql

fyi: sql server 2005 service packs and hot fixes

anyone using ssis ought to consider installing sp1 and the hot fixes.

of course, these should be tested before installing on a server in production.

Fuzzy Lookups and Groupings Algorithm

Hello,
I'm trying to clean my data using fuzzy lookup algorithm though SSIS, but i get null values everywhere. This is what i did:

I applied the fuzzy lookup in a table (tblValues). As source table i have the tblValues, and as reference table in Fuzzy Lookup i have the tblValues as well, resulting null values in all fields/columns.

Do i have to create my own reference table? If yes, how do i do that and what values will i have in this table?I didn't understand how the reference table must be in order the algorithm to work. Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance!

I'm not sure I understand what your objective is. If you are trying to remove duplicates in tblValues, you're better off using a fuzzy grouping task and not a fuzzy lookup task. See the following article for how to use both if you haven't read it yet.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnsql90/html/FzDTSSQL05.asp

Thanks for the article i have already read it and i used it as reference to my project. My objective is to fill the null values with the most possible value.

I'm not sure if fuzzy does that, but in that articles says that "Fuzzy Lookup matches input records that are "dirty" (because of misspellings, truncations, missing or inserted tokens, null fields, unexpected abbreviations, and other irregularities) with clean records in a reference table. ", but i didn't understand how the reference table must be.

Fuzzy Lookup/product level is insufficient

I installed SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition on my XP sp2 workstation, developed an SSIS package, which has run for a week on my workstation.

I installed SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition on a Win2003 sp1 server, created the dtsx and install manifest on my workstation, and installed it on the server.

If I run the package on my workstation, pointed to the server database it runs fine.

If I run the dtsx on the server, it fails with the error:

The product level is insufficient for component "Fuzzy Lookup on Name" (83)

Yes, I have SSIS installed on both machines, I have verified that I have the SSIS service on the server.

Any Ideas?

Thanks!

BobP

Bob,
Fuzzy Lookup/Fuzzy Grouping components are part of the Advanced Transformations that are only available in the Enterprise Edition of SQL.
Per MS all transformations/features are available in the BIDS when you are developing. So you really need to becareful about what features you use in your packages.

fuzzy lookup taking too much time

I have a SSIS package where a small table of 270 rows are fuzzy looked up with a table in another sql server and inserts the records to a temporary table. This takes more than 3 hours in debug mode or so and never goes beyond this step.I have used a OLE DB destination to insert to temporary table and temporary table doesn't get a value.

How big is that other table? The fuzzy will build an index to start with, and this can take time. Review the options on the second tab to influence the index. Also check obvious things like blocking or such like? What about a profiler trace, anything untoward?

|||other table also is the same size and has same no of rows.Thank for the clues I found that some of the NOT null columns in the destination table were not mapped which result in failure of insert. Now it inserts correct rows to temp table and fails with a primary key violation which means its going in a never ending sort of a loop. I am going to put a profiler trace to identify the problem.Any advice welcome

Fuzzy Grouping in SSIS

hi focks,

WHAT IS THE USE OF Fuzzy Grouping IN SSIS

and please give me the example

Koti,

I have seen several questions similar to this one coming from you. I would recommend you to go through the help files, books on line and other resources to get familiar with the tool. Then If you have any issue or doubts, please come back for help.

Fuzzy Group Updates?

Hi there,

Quick Background: I have an SSIS package that reads data from a flat file then runs it through a Fuzzy Grouping component. The result of this Fuzzy Group is put into a SQL server 2005 table.

Question: Over time, the flat file will be adding new records (some that should be added to existing groups) and so I'll need to update my Fuzzy Group table to include these new records. Is there anyway to simply add these new records to the existing Fuzzy Group without changing all of the _key_out values? If I completely regenerate the Fuzzy Group table that will potentially give me different _key_out values correct?

Does this make sense?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

>>" If I completely regenerate the Fuzzy Group table that will potentially give me different _key_out values correct?"

Correct.

Thanks for the reply!

Anyway to preserve the _key_out while still adding records to the groups? Sounds like a complete rebuild of the Fuzzy group is out of the question. Anyway to do this incrementally?

|||

Hi,

Yes, each time you run Fuzzy Grouping with a different set of input rows (or with a different threshold), it is possible that different groupings will result.

If you have run FG once and would like to keep the existing groups, one alternative would be to use Fuzzy Lookup for the incremental input rows. You would basically perform a fuzzy lookup against the output of FG and return the _key_out of the best matching row. You have thus effectively found a group for the new input row. If no match is found above the FL match threshold, then just assign a new unique _key_out to the input row to create a new group.

A slight problem with this approach is that over time all the incremental rows may not be grouped as well as they could be, as the clustering algorithm that Fuzzy Grouping uses to globally pick groupings is not being employed. At that point you may want to just rerun FG and switch to the new groupings.

We are considering adding a feature in the next version that will allow you keep all the old groupings intact.

Let us know if you have any more questions.

Regards,

-Kris

|||Thanks Kris, that will probably suffice for now. Yeah put that in the next version, the FG component is great but it doesn't have much use after the initial run because of this limitation.

Future with SSIS

Hi,

We have a NT service built via Visual Basic 6 which fires dts processes on demand according some criteria. Well, on the whole and basically only for the following rule:

-dts process is executed when our service recognize a concrete plain file leaved in a folder. It’s generally generated for a mainframe JCL along with a activator file (.nul file, empty). Each application own a folder and each folder have lots of files as the aforementioned ones. Scheduler for that is an ASP application that lives within a intranet. It also is a monitor and logger

In that schema, keeping on mind that eight out of ten are ETL processes, critical ones and on daily-basis, our question is, how to handle on with this stuff using by sql25k and its powerful SSIS? Migrating such dts packages to SSIS packages is a piece of cake (now no before; thanks Jamie, Michael and other guys for your awesome help) because of its tipology. However our main concern is what the hell to use. Centralized dtsx package running all day long as a service, listening and checking for files? .Net windows application either vb or c#? aspx solution? Set of .vbs interlinked among them?

This is a old post/goal. In spite of we have not defined any deadline for that, what the heck as time goes by is more urgent for us. A restriction: we can’t to programme nothing from our sql25k production cluster physically. Any stuff will be done on workstations.

In terms of cost, no problem at all. We are interested in hear thoughts and point of view about which is the most effective way

Thanks in advance,

I don't like packages running all day, listening for events. The architecture was not designed for that, and we have not tested packages as long running listeners.

I would suggest using SQL Server Agent, with alerts, listening for WMI messages about files arriving. See: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms191508.aspx

The alerts can execute SSIS packages using the SQL Agent SSIS subsystem.

Funny error during runs

Can any one please help explain why this error has happened, it is not a normal error of SSIS,

"SSIS Debug host has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"

It has 2 buttons Debug and Close, this error happened in the middle of a script task.

This is a classic Microsoft problem. I face this problem often.

These are the scenarios on which I usually get this probelm:

1. If there is less memory on the client system where VB studio is open, and trying lot of mouse clicks frequently.

2. It is observed more when in Debug mode, when you try to scroll using the middle wheel of the mouse.

After I upgraded my desktop RAM to 3GB, and often system restart at the start of the day, I observed this error is less.

Also always saving and building frequently of the packages will help to retain your work. Other than these, there is no real solution from what I observed.
