Functionality of DATEPART

Functionally, is there any difference between DATEPART for m, d, and yyyy, verses simply using MONTH, DAY, and YEAR functions respectively?
For all intents and purposes, they seem identical, so is there any performance considerations using one verses another?I don't know of any material difference between them.
